Today the shelter was swamped with lots of very poorly guinea pigs - TopicsExpress

Today the shelter was swamped with lots of very poorly guinea pigs from multiple surrenders. Here is just one... Ivy and her sister Krystie were surrendered this afternoon. They were born at a high school breeding program with no use of their hind legs and they are now only four weeks old. We rushed them straight to the emergency vet however unfortunately Krystie crossed over rainbow bridge not long after arriving. Ivy, by some kind of miracle, has pulled through. It appears her leg issues have been caused by either injury while in the womb due to rough handling or inappropriate diet during her mothers pregnancy that led to a lack of development. Ivy is on pain relief and will be off to our vet on Monday. So far her prognosis is a mix of horrible and hope. It appears she will need one leg amputated. From there, we can look into sourcing her some mobility assistance wheels and give her a shot at life. Again, this leaves us a second weekend in a row with an emergency vet bill and more critically Ill piggies. If you can donate even $2.00 it will mean the world to us and to little Ivy.
