Japan stands by immigration controls. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe - TopicsExpress

Japan stands by immigration controls. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has stated that increased immigration will not be permitted despite Japans shrinking population. This is good news & comes in a week when the Economist reported (see story on this page) that worries about falling populations are better addressed by education than by baby bonuses or tax breaks ... in predicting dependency ratios (the number of children and pensioners compared with people of working age), education should also be taken into account. And that makes optimal rates much lower than previously thought. Educated people contribute more to the economy throughout their working lives and retire later, so the investment in education will pay off. Moreover, fewer people will help limit future climate change. ft/intl/cms/s/0/32788ff0-ea00-11e3-99ed-00144feabdc0.html#axzz33ZpPG5oQ
