Today we said goodbye in a great way to, by far one of our favorite pibbles ever to come into our shelter. Powell was brought in to the shelter as a stray found on the side of the road with a gunshot wound to the back leg. I clearly remember pulling him out of the back of the good Samaritans car and he was so sweet even with his leg trauma. An xray determined the leg would have to be removed. Dr. Allan amputated and I assisted. Powell lost A LOT of blood... but as soon as he woke up from surgery he walked on his 3 legs as staff cheered him on. He spend many weeks recovering in a cage and had to be walked for potty breaks. Staff, volunteers and Community Service got to know him well and we all fell hard. Even at adoption events, people of all ages and sizes were drawn to him and he loved everyone that came in his path. People didnt love him for his tripod power, it was his funloving, sweet disposition. He never gave up hope at the shelter. He saw us as his family and he was ours. My heart broke time and again when I would see him in his kennel waiting for the right person. Well today, 2 beautiful people named Renee and Rhonda with Lake Charles pitbull rescue came took him to start the next journey of his happy life. Brookie was teary but I held it in like a good soldier.... until they sent a video of Powell happy and running off leash in grass. I broke down. I wish this for all the shelter dogs! Powell we ♥ you my Big Boy Crazy Man!! Ill be looking for your FB page!!! Thank you Lake Charles Pitbull Rescue for giving this boy a life he deserves!
