Todays 3-2-1 Hit: THE ALL AMERICAN BOY by Bill Parsons. Ouch ... - TopicsExpress

Todays 3-2-1 Hit: THE ALL AMERICAN BOY by Bill Parsons. Ouch ... this track reached #2 in February 1959 but was the ultimate case of mistaken identity. It was in reality sung and co-written by country artist Bobby Bare (his first single, actually, after much label rejection), but was credited by Fraternity Records to Bill Parsons as both artist and composer. Parsons was a friend of Bares and just before Bare was drafted, he cut a demo of Boy for Parsons to learn and record. Instead of using the version Parsons did, the label decided to use the original demo. The record was a smash and Parsons got all the credit. While Bare was in the army, Parsons lip-synced the record on TV. Happy ending, though: Bare went on to have a long, successful career. Parsons never charted again ... and he actually never charted to begin with. youtube/watch?v=w222xmmY1B0
