Todays Bible Reading, Wednesday, December 4, 2013 Today we celebrate the martyrdom of Saint Philopateer Mercurius. In his life we can easily see the model of complete, perfect and faithful love towards his God. Because of this love, he did not hesitate for a second to sacrifice everything in his life in one moment (for example, his relationship with the emperor, his close attachment with his soldiers, as well and military promotions and high ranks) This complete love was apparent when St. Philopateer answered the emperor’s request to worship idols first with theactionof tearing his girdle and military attireand thensaying ‘I don’t worship anyone except my Lord and my God, Jesus Christ’. May God grace us with even a small fraction of this type of complete love. 2 Kings 3:16, 20 16 And he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ 20 Now it happened in the morning, when the grain offering was offered, that suddenly water came by way of Edom, and the land was filled with water. Before God can become incarnate in my heart I must empty myself so that there is room for Him to dwell. If I surrender to God and ask Him to show me which parts of my heart need to be emptied, He will never leave me dry. He is faithful to fill up the ditches of my heart with His living water. In the passage, was God able to fill the land with water before the ditches were dug? It is the same with my heart. Dear Lord, I want You to be born inside of me. I will follow Your command and dig out the parts of my heart that are filled with the world, but only if You promise to fill those areas with You. Do not leave me empty, Lord. Amen.
