Todays Devotion Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life (John 5:24, NASB). You can know you have eternal life and that your sins are all forgiven. What a relief to have that kind of assurance! Having eternal life is a present possession for a follower of Jesus, not something that we hope to have some day. Ill never forget hearing what London Pastor Leslie D. Weatherhead said to his congregation during World War II. It was on a Sunday morning after an especially terrible nights bombing of London by Nazi aircraft where hundreds of people had been killed, included members of the church. That morning he stood in his pulpit and announced: It is my great privilege to announce that among the Christians of London there has been no loss of life! Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? (John 11:25-26, NIV). The Greek literally says that we will continue to go on living even if we die. Eternal life is not a feeling, eternal life does not happen in the rib cage. It was purchased for us 2,000 years ago when Jesus died on the cross for us. Lets live lives filled with the assurance that no matter when or where death strikes, we have a life that never ends. If your religion wont comfort you at death, it can be of no help in life. Todays Psalm O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations (Psalm 77:13-14). Todays Proverb A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need (Proverbs 17:17).
