Todays Devotional. Discern While attending Ohio Christian - TopicsExpress

Todays Devotional. Discern While attending Ohio Christian University and pursuing a career as a Pastor, several times we were asked to discern our calling to preach and there were many papers to write concerning our discernment in ministry. In the online dictionary the word discern means to detect with they eyes; to detect with our senses other than vision; to come to know or recognize mentally; to understand something. Scripture tells us, For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) I have read this verse many times while reading the Bible and it never quite made sense to me; but this morning for some reason this verse was in my devotional for the day and I completely understand it now. The Living Word of God is the only power strong enough to discipline my flesh and it causes me to think, look, talk, and act like a born-again Christian. I had to dissect this verse before it made sense. I read it like this. For the Word of God is... a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. God called me to preach at a very young age and for years I thought He had it all wrong. I am finally caught up in the Word of God and its by His power that I can preach and teach. For the first time in my life my desires have changed, I want more of God and I want to tell others about His great love and the power they can have by getting caught up in the Bible - Gods Holy, Almighty Living Word. Be encouraged this very day, Pastor Beverly Weisbach
