Incumbent Republican US Senator Buys 23k Twitter Followers July 26, 2013 • If you build it, they will come, and if they don’t come- make them. In a display of desperation US Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) purchased more than 23 thousand new followers on Twitter. This is not surprising as conservative Tennesseans have found themselves at odds with their senior US senator. Over 300 Tea Party protesters arrived at the senator’s most recent campaign event. The number of protesters matched the number of supporters. Many “supporters” were there only to meet former Governor Huckabee who delivered a keynote speech. As Alexander finds himself struggling to defend his extremely liberal voting record (the most liberal GOP senator in the south), the senator is finding it equally hard to find inspired supporters. So, he tried to buy them. Ben Cunningham, founder of the Nashville Tea Party, told TheLibertyPaper.org: “Senator Alexander’s big money and GOP establishment support does not translate into conservative grassroots support. This is simply another example of his campaign trying to create the illusion that he has support from true conservatives.” Sharon Ford, President of the Tennessee Republican Assembly, tells TheLibertyPaper.org: “I’m not surprised. I believe Sen. Alexander’s need to buy the appearance of acceptance of conservatives represents his disconnect from the voters of the great state of Tennessee. Alexander is a byproduct of the Tennessee GOP Establishment who both have lost touch with the true conservatives of this state. This is but one example of the senator’s modus operandi to mislead the voters.” On July 17th Senator Alexander’s Twitter account hosted an anemic 894 followers with 150 tweets: The next day, on tweet number 150 Alexander’s Twitter account hosted an army of 24,562 new followers: That must have been a pretty inspiring tweet. Just to be sure, we ran the republican senator’s account through Fakers.statuspeople, a website that checks the validity of one’s followers on social media sites, and the results were: Lamar Fake After hundreds of people began tweeting the senator wondering why all the sudden they were following him- he dumped the new load of supporters, and deleted all the evidence. However, he didn’t act fast enough. The embattled senator is expected to face a tough primary in 2014.
