Todays devotional courtesy of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church John 13:1-20 As a child, have the words “Do as I say do and not as I do” ever been spoken to you? In most cases, this phrase has been stated by someone in a leadership role in our lives. What is most interesting is that we seem to hear with our eyes much more than we do our ears. Jesus understood it was more important for him to lead by example rather than by his words only. True leadership flows out of the depths of love, humility and a willingness to serve more than be served. This is a great lesson for us to learn as Christians who aspire to be leaders. Jesus, Son of the Most High God, who has all power in His hands and all heavenly resources at His beckoning, chose to humble himself and serve those whom He called. I have discovered having a love and passion for those I lead brings a loving humility that compels me to serve them. Titles and positions are null and void of importance if there is no heart for serving, which in our reading today is feet washing. Jesus gave his disciples instructions to follow His lead and we should do the same. Remember, when we are called to leadership we are called to become the “feet washers” of those we lead. Ask yourself, “If I’m unable to wash feet am I capable of leading a soul?” Dear God- Today, I ask you to renew my heart and passion for serving others. I pray that you guide my steps in a path that will allow me to humble myself and be of service to someone that I encounter today - and may that encounter bring glory and honor to Your name.
