Todays easy, generic activism letter to print, sign, send and share! September 15, 2014 Dear We won’t legislate teachers back you said, but in fact, I fear that is exactly what you will do. I have absolutely no faith in your willingness to participate meaningfully in negotiations with BC’s teachers. Your self-centered scheming has kept students and teachers out of their classrooms far too long. Had you really wanted to negotiate a settlement it would have been done long ago. And so, looking ahead we are right back to where we started 18 months ago. We will be facing, once again, labour unrest and disruption to our learning and working environments. The provincial government that claimed to want labour peace has made that very thing impossible. You forget, I think, that we are citizens and that for many of us there are things just as, if not more important than, the fiscal bottom line. We are not only tax payers who fund projects but also are people who deserve to be represented and to have services like healthcare and education available to us. In the public education system everyone has access to the same opportunities, everyone can learn and everyone is valued. Who are you representing in this dispute? Your very tired and inappropriate answer of the taxpayer holds no water as those are the people who are asked to fund pet projects. Whose interests are being considered? When a government cares more about a flexible and changeable bottom line (a surplus?) than about the people it represents we are treading in dangerous waters. One of the most outlandish claims being made is that the government doesn’t have the funds to support our children! A province that can fix a roof, build a convention centre, fund lawsuits (defamation?) could certainly find the money to address at least some of the needs of BC teachers and students.
