Todays election day, but how many Americans will vote - TopicsExpress

Todays election day, but how many Americans will vote enthusiastically? According to a recent Gallup poll, 60 percent of Americans say America needs a major third political party because the Democratic and Republican parties do such a poor job of representing the American people -- the highest level ever recorded since Gallup began asking the question a decade ago. I dont want to dwell in false equivalencies here. The GOP, captured by evangelical Christians and right-wing billionaires, is no longer even capable of governing. But the Democratic Party is not fighting for the working class as it once did. Even when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress during the first two years of Obamas first term (as well as the first two years of Clintons first term), they failed to reverse the scourge of widening inequality, lousy jobs, and big money undermining our democracy. Blue Dog Democrats still predominate; Wall Street and corporate money still holds sway. Is it possible to have a third party that represents the real needs of average working Americans -- a party that draws together both Tea Partiers and progressives who distrust Wall Street and the corporate welfare state, who have had it with a government more responsive to the privileged and powerful than to the majority who continue to lose ground, and who want to make our economy and democracy work for all of us instead of a few?
