Today’s 2013 Convocation was a special day of Saints Spirit when we installed Deborah B. Russell as the Academy’s sixth Head of School amid an amazing celebration of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy sights and sounds, including Kindergartners escorted by seniors, the NSA Band playing all our favorite Saints tunes and Bernie and the NSA cheerleaders leading the crowd in cheers of blue and gold! Today Mike King ’94 was also installed as the new Head of Upper School and 19 retired employees were honored for their many years of service to make NSA the excellent school it is today. As the official beginning of the 2013-2014 academic year at NSA, Convocation brings all our Saints back home! New trustees and former trustees greeted retirees and current faculty, while the next graduating class led some of our youngest Saints to the center of the Thomas W. Johnson Gymnasium in the Beazley Center. Honored today with gold banners were our 25+ years of service employees: Peggy Andleton, 25 years of service; Marie Bowman, 25 years of service; Raymond Carson, 25 years of service; Monette Harrell, 26 years of service; Claudia Hawks, 25 years of service; Hannah Holland, 28 years of service; Pat House, 29 years of service; Lynn Knight, 25 years of service; Candy Nash, 27 years of service; Cleta Norcross, 27 years; Ann Powell, 25 years; Maryanne Riddick, 25 years of service; Ellen Rountree, 28 years of service; Nancy Russell, 25 years of service; Delores Sealey, 28 years of service; and Harriett Wills, 26 years of service. Blue banners were presented to our 30+ years of service employees: Kay Duke, 31 years of service; Brenda Kincaid, 33 years of service; and Charlotte Mansfield, 43 years of service. In addition, in honor of Brenda D. Kincaid and thanks to many generous donors, the Brenda D. Kincaid Endowment Fund was announced today, which will sponsor the Kincaid Math Cup, to be presented for the first time to a member of the Class of 2014 at graduation. Today Head of School Debbie Russell pledged, “You deserve the best in us, and we seek to provide each student a meaningful and excellent college preparatory educational experience this year and every year.” As we kick off one of our best years ever after record breaking Annual Fund giving last year, please join us in celebrating excellence each and every day at NSA!
