Today’s poem ~ September 26, 2013 ~ is by Maurice Gandy, a long-time friend and fellow poet. It is from the first issue of “Negative Capability” published July, 1981 – amazing! DeSoto By Maurice Gandy Deserted lot. Far back. Stark among the weeds. A DeSoto. Weathered white. Side stripes of faded gold. Gone-by license hangs by a sliver. On the side, partially, letters broken: GOLDEN ADVENTUR . . . For all the weather a miracle car. Without a scratch. A dent. A window cracked. Tires tense with air. Unclaimed by nature and small boys. Inside. Upholstery. Creamy white. Saddle smooth. A purse sprawls open on the seat. Jammed with ladies’ things. Half-extruded. In the back. Propped in a plush carpet. High heels. A pair. At odd angles. Red. Elegant. Empty. The door locks of the DeSoto are down.
