Tomorrow, 24 January, sees the 50th anniversary of the death of Winston Churchill. Whilst it is never wise to put any man on a pedestal, he was, in my opinion, a man uniquely placed in the nations affection. Nobody else has or ever will have, the longevity in public life, the sheer breadth of experiences he had, or come to be defined by one particular moment in history quite like this man was. From being a young journalist in the Boer War, dramatically escaping captivity on the roof of a train, to serving as Home Sec and Chancellor of the Exchequer, to seeing action in the First World War, and then his defining moments leading the nation through the darkness of the Battle of Britain; and still even then serving (though perhaps he shouldnt) as Prime Minister again in the 1950s, he was simply unique. https://m.youtube/watch?v=87Xkr8z3lEo
