Tomorrow I will be participating in a fast of solidarity for the homeless of Fort Lauderdale. Currently, homeless rights activists are being arrested for giving food to their friends. It is essentially illegal to be kind to your fellow man. This national day of fasting is to remind us all of the suffering that is happening in the world, and I encourage you all to take the food or money you would have used on yourself and give it to someone else. Dr. King said, One who breaks an unjust law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law. I encourage each of you to follow the conscience of love and compassion and join with us in this fast. We can stop this injustice together if we rise up as one voice and declare that we will not allow our brothers and sisters to starve in the streets.
