Heres the detail: Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center presents Schuylkill Valley Journal #38: Poetry. Essay and Fiction Readings From the Spring 2014 Issue” on Sunday, June 8 from 3:00 to 5:30 PM. Readers include the Featured Poet Joyce Meyers, Cover Page Writer Mike Cohen, and fiction writers Jim Breslin and Connie Wrzesniewski and nearly a dozen poets. $5 Donation requested. Refreshments available. The poetry readers for the afternoon program include the following: Joyce Meyers (the featured poet), Kara Cochran, Amy Laub, Bernadette McBride, Ian ONeill, Diana Pazicky, Elizabeth Quigley, Wendy Fulton Steginsky , Janice Wilson Stridick and Susan Weaver. The following are the fiction writers and their short stories: Jim Breslin – “Turbulence” and Connie Wrzesniewski.- “Slow Burn.” Each will read portions of their fiction. Two poems by Charles Baudelaire as translated by Eric Sellin will also be part of the program. The cover page of this edition is George Whitefield, a stirring preacher in the Great Awakening movement in the mid-18th century. Mike Cohen will give a short talk on the prominent evangelist. The MRAC is celebrating the 300th anniversary of Whitefield’s birth in 1714. Whitefield, who died in 1770, knew George Washington and many others in the pre-Revolutionary War period. Peter Krok, the Humanities Director of the MRAC, hosts and coordinates the Sunday Humanities series, which he started in 1990.
