Tomorrow it will be two weeks since Dad (Sonny Atkins) had his surgery. Sadly, the past two weeks have not brought any improvement in his condition. He is still battling two infections and is largely unresponsive. This week, the doctors put him on a ventilator to support his breathing during an extensive serious of CT scans and other tests. Although his blood tests continue to show reasonable kidney and liver function, the doctors are trying to boost their functionality in hopes that it will help him clear the infection. They continue to remove fluid from his abdominal cavity. I remain optimistic that this is a temporary thing and that he will bounce back. For those who have asked, Dad is in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville VA. He does not have a phone in his room.
