Tomorrow on November 8th this what James wrote in his diary November 8th 1850 Up 7am , vessel running on the weather side astern of us shortened. Sail came up to us, passed us on the windward, hailed ship Carnatic, London to Bombay, out 47 days, ours Lord Stanley, Port Phillip from Liverpool, 120 passenger out 60 days, wished us a better passage, their sailors up rigging, three cheers, returned it on our part, again repeated it, almost ran foul of each other, left us far behind her in the course of a few hours, made a couple of puddings, one today, the other for Sunday, had some cakes made, place cleaned out. Sky very much overcast, sea rather rough, laughing in the evening with the ladies & some of the young men, got my arms severely pinched, bed ¼ after 10pm
