Tomorrow sees a new property portal site being launched onto the market. A number of estate agents up and down the country are shouting from the rooftops about how OnTheMarket is the best thing to happen to the home-buying public since the advent of the internet. Buyers, they say, will now have a wider choice of websites from which to find their new home. Oh. But hang on. Is that necessarily such a good thing? All subscribing OTM agents have had to pledge to advertise on fewer rival property portals. This means, in effect, that the home-buying public will find that each individual site will have a smaller proportion of the total number of homes available, and so they will actually have to trawl more websites to find their new home. What a pain! Whats more ... Is it just me, or does this not all sound a wee bit disrespectful to those agents clients who might be quite rationally expecting their chosen professionals to honour their obligations by advertising their properties as widely as possible ... rather than reduce their coverage? So, perhaps, instead, estate agents should just BE HONEST and shout from the rooftops about how OnTheMarket is the BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO ESTATE AGENTS, as its a bit cheaper than the established alternatives. PS. We take looking after our clients best interests seriously. We have taken the decision to NOT skimp; all of our clients properties will continue to appear on Rightmove, Zoopla, Primleocation, etc etc etc
