Tonight I had the privilege of getting spat on, slapped in the face and thrown about the ground by a chap who is now confined to a cell in custody. Same chap also spat on my colleague, so obviously it wasnt personal! He will remain in custody until late morning when he will be charged with a number of offences to appear at Court later in the month. He is accompanied in custody this evening by three other Newry prisoners. They are there for a variety of reasons: One for robbery One for domestic assault & One for assault. All 4 can expect to get roused regularly to check their well being, an all day breakfast and choice of tea or coffee and the benefit of being fingerprinted and photographed prior to leaving. Myself and colleagues have been held on past our normal finish time, 2 of us have spittle covered uniform and kit and Ive a stinging left cheek. And we all thought itd be a quiet weekend after New Years!
