Tonight I ventured forth to make some cookies. Not just any old cookie - but old fashioned Hermits. These ordinarily have nuts and raisins in them. BUT, my mother decided to put dates in the mixture also. They were great! My favorite cookie. SO... I go to the store on the way home from work to get stuff. Realized I did not know what I needed. Called sister Gail in Terre Haute for ingredients. She told me as I threw spices in the cart. ( I will have to sell these cookies for about $6.50 A piece to get my money back! So, I looked at the recipe when I got home. Makes about 30 - 40 cookies. Obviously I have to double this recipe. Obviously I should write down all of the new amounts . So I put the brown sugar and butter together. Then whip the eggs and milk together. Then I stirred the egg/milk into butter/sugar. Then I mixed dry ingredients including all spices. Into the wet mess with the dry stuff. Oops I realized I did not double the eggs! No wonder it was getting stiff so fast! (In with two more eggs) Then I realized I had not put the salt or baking soda in the dry mixture! Fortunately I had not added all of the flour yet - so I mixed it into that round of flour. I decided to put 12 small gobs on each cookie sheet. I got 12 on three different cookie sheets. By the time I got the third one loaded, the first one was done. By then I realized my gobs were too big and I had - well, some of you may have done this and know! Anyway they are done. They taste NOTHING like what my mom made - but they are not too bad.
