Took my daughter to the Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. She loved it! Said the Dark Universe show was Amazing! She had a million questions during the show and kept pointing and saying, Oohhh look at that! Is that the sun, Daddy? Is that the moon? Whats a satellite? I was just as excited as she was. It was a home run excursion and I loved bringing her to the planetarium. The only downer came in the museum store when she looked at all of the images on the packaging of the space suits and concluded that space suits and astronauts were only for boys. I had to quickly correct and tell her that there are many women astronauts. I cant blame her for coming to that conclusion, though. The only images of astronauts that we saw were of white boys only. No white girls, no black girls, no Latina girls or Latino boys, no Asian boys, no Native American boys or girls, no Island Pacific boys or girls, etc. Had to come home and show her images of women astronauts and women of color astronauts, specifically: Mae Jamison and Stephanie Wilson, the first two black women in space.
