Top 20 percentile eligibility will remain same in 2014 JAB feels that sufficient data was not present against top 20 percentile eligibility rules this year and eligibility criteria should remain same for 2014 too In 2013 top 20 percentile eligibility criteria was introduced for IIT admission. As per this rule IIT admission will be completely based on JEE Advanced merit score but to get admission student must be under top 20 percentile in their respective XII board examinations too. Because of this top 20 percentile rule IITs rejected admission of 79 students this year. Most of these students were from andhra pradesh boards. A JAB member said there was not enough data to back the “allegation” that the system was wrong, though there was a proposal to tweak it. “Students who were not selected despite clearing both levels were not eligible as they scored less than the cut-off of their boards. There was no mistake in the system. If there are two consecutive years where we experience a problem and there is data to back the claim, then we might think of revising it,” said the official.
