You can take the following steps to keep safer at night: •During darkness you are safest in well-lit and busy areas. •Cover up expensive looking jewellery, mobile phones, or even keys, cash or cards. •If you often walk, consider carrying a personal attack alarm. •Always making sure someone knows your movements, schedule and the route you are taking. If your plans change, tell them. •Planning ahead. Places and routes you use during the day can change considerably after dark. Avoid poorly lit subways, car parks and open areas. •If you do find yourself in trouble, the best form of defence is to get away and head towards busier areas. •If you are trapped, bring attention to yourself, making as much noise as possible by shouting for help or for someone to contact the police.
