Topic: Why was Jesus born? References from - Matthew 1:18-25; Matthew 2:1-12; Luke 1:26-38; Luke 2:1-20. Matthew 1:18-25 (New International Version)Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son 18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[a]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[b] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[c] because he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what God had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[d] (which means “God with us”). 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. With the question, why was Jesus Christ born as a human being? We all know that God could have delivered us through different means. Sending the Angels to deliver the good news giving us second chance after our first ancestors messed up in the garden of Eden. No, It was not by messenger or by angel, but by his presence, that God saved his children; in His love and in his pity he redeemed them. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9) God desires children who will love and trust him. This is why he came down by Himself as human being. God wants his children to trust him. We failed to trust God in the Garden of Eden, where we listened to and accepted the word of the serpent rather than God’s word. And, so, Jesus was born to give us the opportunity and ability to love, trust and have faith in God again. “I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters, in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.” (Hebrews 2:12) This passage is telling us how Jesus Christ used himself to be the one to point everyone to God. Jesus name in Hebrew is Yeshua, meaning Yahweh Saves, and this is how God planned it through incarnation, birth, life, and death of our Lord. As the Prophet Isaiah pointed out, we are saved in the presence of God. “I will put my trust in him.” (Hebrews 2:13a) Because God wants us to have faith in Him to restore the lost faith of Adam and Eve, Jesus was born to teach us how to have faith in the Father. Christ is standing with us in the presence of the Father so that God looks through Christ to see us. So, our Lord Jesus Christ was born as a true representation of God, pure and blameless. Second, He was born to empower our faith by placing His faith in the Father. God incarnated, so that we will understand what it meant to have faith, trust, be obedient, suffer, doubt, and die to live again. This is why Jesus was born. So the following story will explain the meaning of the saying that anyone who has Jesus Christ as the savior has everything. Take my Son..... A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything artistic representation in their collection. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.. When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands.. He said, Sir, you dont know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and as he was carrying me to safety the bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly... He often talked about you, and your love for art. The young man held out this package. I know this isnt much. Im not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this. The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture.. Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. Its a gift. The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected. The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection. On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture? There was silence... Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one. But the auctioneer persisted. Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200? Another voice angrily. We didnt come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Goghs, the Rembrandts. Get on with the Real bids! But still the auctioneer continued. The son! The son! Wholl take the son? Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. Ill give $10 for the painting... Being a poor man, it was all he could afford. We have $10, who will bid $20? Give it to him for $10. Lets see the masters. The crowd was becoming angry. They didnt want the picture of the son. They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections. The auctioneer pounded the gavel.. Going once, twice, SOLD for $10! A man sitting on the second row shouted, Now lets get on with the collection! The auctioneer laid down his gavel. Im sorry, the auction is over. What about the paintings? I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will... I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings. The man who took the son gets everything! God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: The son, the son, wholl take the son? Because, you see, whoever knows that that Son is the reason for the season, and lives the life that is pleasing to the father gets eternal life. FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE...THATS LOVE (John 3:16) Do we have the Son today, if not, are we willing, ready and sincerely want to receive the Son? If the answer is yes, we must show it through the way we talk, where we go, the company we keep and tithing and giving gifts that will be for the up keeping of the Sons body, the Church. Let our way of life from now on compel us to never be ashamed to practice our faith in God so that the unsaved will be running asking what shall I do to be saved. This is why Christ was born. Merry Christmas to all. Let us pray: Holy Father, thank you for coming as one of us to show your love today. Help us to stop looking for everything else and focus on accepting your beloved Son Jesus Christ through Whom we will see you when all is said and done in this world. In His name we pray, Amen.
