Torontos War on Raves is one of the most dangerous political and media instigated battles that could lead to the end of the electronic music scene in the Greater Toronto Area (with surrounding regions to follow). What is most sickening about this illegitimate argument, is that every single drug related event at an electronic music event is smeared all over the media with full exposure of the event, promoters, and causes... yet whenever violent acts happen during other festivals (ie: shootings at Caribana) they are loosely covered in the media, and news agencies do all they can to avoid attaching the violence to the event at which it happened. This weekend was a perfect example as the two drug related deaths at VELD (along with the dozen of hospitalizations) has been all over the news, as well as a major focus of city councils meetings... meanwhile there was little to no coverage of the multiple shootings & stabbings (incl the stabbing of a police officer at Young-Dundas Square that did not even make the news) which all happened at Caribana events (one stabbing was loosely related to Caribana by stating it happened along the parade route, all others that made the news had no mention of the festival). The city is biased against the electronic music scene (in which the risk is due to a lack of drug awareness and education), meanwhile they promote festivals that have a continued trend of violence... what is the greater risk, really? I think we know the answer; the violence. Not cool, Toronto... get your priorities straight!
