Touch of Encouragement for November 08, 2013 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!” Luke 8:24-25 Most of us have had unkind things to say about the weather from time to time. Of course, when we curse the wind--or the cold--or the heat, nothing happens. But when Jesus spoke to the wind and waves and said, Cut it out!, there was immediate response: They ceased, and there was a calm. This would motivate one to obey Jesus when He gives orders to sail anywhere. It is good to be in the boat with Him, especially when unexpected storms of life occur. (F. Donehoo) As we consider our Creator’s control: The question answers itself! Only the Creator controls creation. No human can. Only God can bring calm to the storm and bring order out of chaos. This Jesus is more than a man; he is the Creator in human flesh! His words must be met with faith and obedience. His words bring grace, mercy, and peace! P. Ware) Papa Roy says, like the disciples of Jesus on board a capsizing ship, we must recognize that God is the authority in our life. When you feel like you’re going to drown, call out to the Master, the captain of your soul! He can silence your fear and quiet your emotions. Take courage. Your life is in His hands. (J. Long)
