Toughest writing assignment Ive ever had: today I shared some words of condolence and remembrance as family and friends celebrated the life of Julio Nuñez, who passed away a week ago. Julios wife Sarah is a co-worker of my wife Andrea, and our families got know each other, especially this past year. Like Andreas family, Julio and Sarah came to Canada as refugees from the horrific violence unleashed against those who tried to build more equal and just societies. There was a bombing attempt on Julios life in 1984 because of his involvement with the FMLN, after which he fled to Canada via the U.S. It was such an honour to participate in todays ceremony. Julios friends and comrades paid beautiful homage to this family man who worked for his countrys freedom and Latin Americas liberation. His comrade Roberto sent a message from El Salvador that summed up this humble and sincere man: friend, brother, comrade, you lived with your face towards the sky and you have left us with your head held high... Even when you emigrated up north your heart was always, and will remain, here. Thank you my friend for all you have shared with me, I know you have just moved ahead of me for a bit and I will see you soon. Hasta La Victoria Siempre.
