Track observations for today - yes there are a couple of them....1. When someone comes to my window with two tickets and wants to collect...it shocks me (mildly) when they have won a little over $1646.20 and tell me to let it roll...Yes, I know what that means...and Im guessing that the customer does too...The machine will not allow me to print out a ticket for more than $250 or for pennies......so I give him the 20cents and a ticket for $46 and tell him that I will print 8 more tickets for $200 each. He kept asking me if that was right...took the two dimes, and the 9 tickets and off he went. THEN.....another patron came up to me grinned and said heres a big ticket - I put it in the machines reader, and it came up as two cents...bear in mind, we dont deal with pennies (the voucher machines do, but not human tellers) - I tell him that I dont have pennies...he asks the logical question WHY? - because Sir, NYRA doesnt equip me with either pennies, or nickels...He insisted he wanted two cents...I SHOULD have printed out a two cent voucher and directed him to management, but I obliged - walked down the teller aisle and borrowed two cents from another clerk. Finally....one of the last customers of the day, collecting, argued with me that he had indeed won more than the $7.45 I handed him. I mentioned that his ticket paid that, and he demanded to know why he wasnt getting all of his money...He rather loudly said it paid $14.90 and I had a dollar to win why did I only get that? Well sir, when the odds are listed they are based on a $2 bet....you wagered half, therefore you collect half. And so goes another day at the track. Tomorrow will be crazy busy - Whitney Stakes!
