Traits of a Great Wedding I recently read an article about the traits of a good wedding planner and what a bride should look for when hiring a wedding planner. It was an interesting article and also an article that I used the article to challenge myself to be the best wedding planner that I can be. First trait is to me compassionate and have empathy and understanding for what the bride is going through. Realizing that this is the most stressful time in their lives. You see wedding planners are somewhat emotionally removed from the event. In order to have compassion a great wedding planner must be a true listener and have a true understanding of the clients concerns and desires for their wedding. Listening more than talking. I will admit this is sometimes an area that I have to focus. I get so excited about weddings that I just start spouting off ideas before I can help myself. Passionate is a self proclaimed trait of mine however it is always important to listen and ask questions and make the wedding all about the bride. Get to know the bride on a deeper level and really listen to spoken and also unspoken feelings. Having good mediation skills. The third trait of a great wedding planner. There are times that we as wedding planners have to mediate issues that might arise. Whether it be addressing issues with the venue or other vendors and come up with a win-win solution. Sometimes guidance and advice to help deal with family dynamics and offer ideas and advice that might help those issues. Obviously a great wedding planner trait is experienced. After 10 years of experience and probably 200 weddings I will say this is a fact. Experience brings a smooth ride on the wedding planning train. The difference between fabulous and disaster. Organization is very important. A wedding planner juggles at least 10 weddings at any given time. Being able to keep those weddings organized and flowing is only possible through organization. Great Reviews. If you want to know how great and wonderful a wedding planner is take a moment to read the reviews. They will paint a truer picture of what the planner is like. The final trait and I believe one of the most important. I say quite often the two people that you want to make sure that you really like are your wedding planner and photographer. The two of these people will be in your face the most and you will spend most of your time with. Make sure that you feel comfortable, relaxed, and confident with him or her. You should be able to feel free to share your thoughts and ideas without feeling judged.
