Trim Healthy Mama was not written for fast weight loss. As we mention on page 120, “You’re reading the wrong book if you are hoping for large losses on the scale every week”. THM is about balanced blood sugar and healthy eating… you find your “Trim” as a natural result. But, many people do lose swiftly following the plan… we’re thrilled for them. Others drop more slowly, and that is perfectly fine. We urge our readers not to compare themselves with others on plan. Aleah has been a slower loser but her journey is every bit as inspiring and her health transformation astounding… here is her story: “I came across Trim Healthy Mama in Feb. 2013 when a friend wanted me to look at some recipes. But when I got it I was more intrigued by chapter 6, “Truths from the Bible”. The authors chose effective Scriptures to justify the inclusion of all food groups in my diet. I just had to read on. The following chapters were even more compelling so I borrowed her book longer. Now I wanted to test the theory of single fueling, but my friend needed her book back... she missed it. I knew what she meant... I didnt want to part with it either. I felt like the authors were my new friends. They had such a transparent writing style. I felt like I knew them and they had pegged me. I could not afford the full price to buy the book at that time, and our library didnt have it yet. So my friend gave me the remaining money to purchase it. I DID want to lose some weight. I had gone from 172 down to 153 pounds on WW the year before, but I was now climbing again and at 164 pounds. (23 years ago I was at 200 pounds and I never want to go back to that.) After just a week and a half on the plan I lost a couple pounds and was no longer craving sugary foods. And I was so energized! After 7 weeks I was down 6 pounds. I was also starting to get defined muscles in my abs and upper arms, without changing anything in my stretching routine of 2 years. That was such a mystery to me. After about 4-1/2 months (including 2 months of being away from home and no exercise), I had only lost 1 more pound but my arms and abs became so defined they were shocking. It felt like Id had a muscle transplant. I had hit a stall on the scale that would last a total of 4 months, from mid-April to late August. However, I was so blown away by the physical transformation. My longing to see the scale move paled in comparison. My annual physical was 6 months into my THM journey. My doctor was amazed at my metabolism transformation at 49 years old and my remarkable cholesterol. She and two of her assistants said they were going to read the book! The scale finally budged again, 3 more pounds. Five weeks later another 2.5 pounds. A month later 1 more pound. And finally 1 more pound weeks later. All the while fluctuating up and back down 3 pounds, I am now at my lowest weight in years! With 6 pounds to go, I am so encouraged that I will eventually see my goal weight. I consider myself a Trim Healthy Mama Turtle... Slow to lose but getting a firmer body. I am amazed at how this eating style has resurrected my metabolism from the dead. My body has converted excess fat into muscle. Ive given away bags of clothes that fit a whole different shaped body, not just a different size. I have friends doing the plan who have lost nearly 3 times as much as I have in a shorter amount of time but, honestly, they arent my gauge. Each journey is personal. I feel like Ive just recently been introduced to my real body, and shes not what I expected her to be. I am enjoying getting to know her. For 8 months now, my allowance money gets saved up to purchase this book for other friends who cant swing the cost (6 so far). But I would buy THM by the case, if I could, and hand them out to strangers. This book is very special. It leads to freedom from food bondage and liberation from a self-destructive thought life for SO MANY people. I LOVE cooking this way! I love teaching my friends and family to cook this way. They love the foods I share with them and I must say, I LOVE MY FOOD!”
