Sitting on a bucket turned upside down, he enters pimento yields on a production file on his computer. Welcome to the world of high-tech farming. In 2013, farming no longer is just about spending long hours under the hot sun or taking weeks, months even, to get soil test results. Technology has transformed the way agriculture is done in the 21st century, said Karl Burgess, manager, PCS Nitrogen Model farm, at Pt Lisas, Couva. The farm, which lies on 75 acres of land, is owned by PCS Nitrogen, a subsidiary of PotashCorp, the world’s largest producer of crop nutrients. Some of these technological developments in modern agriculture include watering plants with the click of a computer mouse, getting soil results in days and determining pest types within hours.
