Trips To Dennys When I was a kid and misbehaved there were - TopicsExpress

Trips To Dennys When I was a kid and misbehaved there were always the proverbial trips to the woodshed. We didnt have a woodshed per se, but if one hears that they generally get the idea of its intended meaning. Raising 5 sons I pretty well understood what made them tick. Now when it came to girls, daughter in laws, that was a whole different thing. For the first several years I kept at least one of the new female additions to the family mad or in tears most of the time, or it seemed that way. I just didnt understand self centered - its all about me stuff that girls brought to the family dynamic. Or rather I didnt buy into it. I lost the battle on the first one. I decided it was too much work to try to understand her. I found out you can love them even if you dont understand them. But with the second one, it seemed like a good challenge and straightening her out may be fun. So I went to work. It was easier with her, because she went to work right along beside me in Houston. We were bidding a lot of jobs there and our office was a converted bedroom in my apartment. Katherine and my son Mike, lived in the same complex. So that put the 2 of us together almost constantly. When Id see things not working just right, Id say come on and go with me. Wed head down the street to Dennys where we would eat breakfast and have a heart to heart talk. I would explain to her how grown ups dont act like she was acting. She was pretty stubborn so it made the trips the Dennys happen frequently. Somewhere along the way I think I broke her fighting spirit. It was kind of like breaking Shetland ponies when Kenny and I were kids. They could be mean and temperamental as anything youd ever seen, but if you rode them long and hard enough, one day they would give in and and you would know from that day on you have a nicely trained pony. I consider Katherine to be very nicely trained now. If she starts running off track now 12 or 15 years later and is acting up, I look her in the eyes and say is it time for us to make a trip to Dennys? Thats all it takes. But after writing this well see how well trained she actually is. If this post has to come down by in the morning, youll know that another few trips to Dennys is still needed.
