Tristeros game of the year #4: Devils Attorney. Developer: 1337 Platform: iOS and Android. OK this came out in 2012 but I didnt know it existed until this year and it offered a lot of amusement to me. So sue me, I dont get paid for this! Heh. Sue. In Devils Attorney you play as a charming but evil attorney, engaging in turn based trials where truth is treated as flies are to wanton boys. Notice the attention to detail, from the mild satire (its unlikely the creators wanted to make a point beyond riffing off our common cultural suspicions about lawyers and the over-successful), the movies it takes the piss out of, to the obscenely garish material goods that increase certain character traits, the silver-tongued and goofy fully-voiced(!) dialogue that progresses an actual story before each case, and the implicit idea that we use our imagination to fill in the specifics of the trial, the joke being that they are unimportant next to Max McManns shameless pursuit of status. All this in a STRATEGY GAME, one that is thoughtful and satisfying in short doses, where you can change the difficulty your needs. This is the ideal mobile game and the ending is, like Max, just a bit too clever.
