Troopship Queen Mary in Sydney Harbour, May 1940. The Cunard Lines Queen Mary ocean liner, along with RMS Mauretania, sailed from New York to Sydney in March 1940 to carry troops overseas for war. In May 1940, both vessels left Sydney Harbour bound for the United Kingdom with 2,000 Australian troops on board. RMS Queen Mary is now dry docked at Long Beach, California, where she is permanently moored as a tourist attraction, hotel, museum, and event facility.
