Tropical Cyclone Bansi (05S) remains active in the South Indian Ocean located about 451 NM east of Port Louis, Mauritius Island. Bansi peaked in strength at the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane level and will begin to deteriorate over the next 12 hours. In the Mozambique Channel, Tropical Cyclone Chedza (06S) is now active, located about 650 NM west of St. Denis, La Reunion Island, and moving slowly east-southeastward across western Madagascar. According to JTWC, Chedza is losing strength as it crosses over Madagascar, but will regain much of its former intensity as it emerges over the South Indian Ocean. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Mekkhala (01W) remains active in the Philippine Sea, located approximately 470 NM east-southeast of Manila, Philippines. Mekkhala will soon be making landfall along the east coast of the central Philippine Islands and is moving westward near 16 mph. The JTWC forecasts Mekkhala gradually intensifying over the next 12 hours, attaining peak strength of 60 knots (68 mph) prior to making landfall. The storm is expected to weaken as it moves over the central Philippines, and will degrade further before pushing out into the South China Sea. Public Storm Warning Signals have been issued in the Luzon and Visayas region.
