Tropical storm 24W (Nari) SANTI is on a strengthening trend, and according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), will become a typhoon Friday. It is expected to peak in strength at 70 knots, with gusts to near 85 knots…just before striking the east coast of Luzon Island, Philippines early this weekend. This coast will receive heavy pounding surf, storm surge, very gusty winds, and heavy flooding rainfall, moving inland across Luzon Island…to the north of Manila. This typhoon will weaken due to the physical terrain encounter of Luzon, before pushing out into the South China Sea later Sunday or Monday. It will weaken only temporarily though, backing down into the tropical storm category during this land crossing. It then is expected to pick up strength during its crossing of the warm waters of the South China Sea, heading towards either Hainan Island China, or the Vietnamese east coast north of Hue.
