True Story -- Many moons ago, I received a call from my manager at the time that Masters At Work aka Little Louie Vegas & Kenny Dope Gonzales would like me to feature on a tribute song to Fela Anikulapo Kuti -- Seriously i thought someone was playing a prank and told my manager so....safe to say it was not a joke. Dis tune became an instant Classic. I went on to record 2 more songs with MAW. Thanks to this cover i was inundated with offers to collab with many other DJ/producers from all over the globe. During one of my appearances at WMC, I got chatting with Afronaught aka Orin Walters and Seiji members of Bugz In The Attic (Ldn broken beat crew). They loved loved Maw Expensive Sh#t and both wished to record with me-- Lord and behold they were asked to produce Zombie for Red, Hot & Riot Tribute to Fela! however the vocals was meant for someone else...I happened to be home in London and they invited me to come by their studio. They encouraged me to record vocals for Zombie. Because i knew who was suppose to sing the lead I really did not expect my version to be accepted a tall a tall!....hence the whole tongue in check adlip opening. I went on a Wunmigirl playful rampage-- This session reaffirm that it is really true saying what is meant for you is yours and in time all will be revealed. I was beside myself with joy when i received the call that it was accepted!...( thanks Daz-I-Kue) for doing his magic edit to correct my Zombie spelling..Lol! I think often how surreal it is that I happen to have recorded 2 Fela songs which went on to be big underground tunes.(Ty was the one who told me how massive Zombie was in Ldn.) for i had not returned to Ldn after it was released....when i did finally make it home,I went to Plastic peoples (club where all the best broken beat djs played). though TY had warned me I was blown away! to be in the club rammed to the roof and everyone singing your adlip!!!! IG..rewinds upon rewinds --pinched me o! enough said! February this year i traveled to Zanzibar (East Africa) & Sao Paulo (Brazil) with my band - Jeremy Mage (MD/Keys/Bass/vocals) Masa Shimizu (Guitar/Vocals) Kenny Lewis (Drums) & Lisette Santiago (Percussion & Vocals) this was my 1st time playing dis side of the waters...And it gave me so much joy to share /perform this 2 cover songs....This footage is from Sao Paulo - this recording we perform Expensive Sh#t, Zombie and What a see.... no matter how many times i have sang dis songs..it always feels like the 1st time... MUSIC BRINGS ME JOY....https://youtube/watch?v=CvWZkSYyUwc Thanks again Alex Affonso for sharing dis recording with me.
