True or Myth: Our neurons die as we grow up. Well, there is a natural process called neural pruning. Same as you would trim dry branches of a tree to make it pretty and healthy, our brain trims the neurons that arent useful in order to make it more efficient. Is neural pruning negative? No, not really. It is more about the specialization that we develop when we do different tasks and practice them. While some neurons are pruned and specialization happens, the very important neuronal interconnections are taking place. This means that new and stronger brain circuitries are arising and maturing. What is better then? Figuratively, we could say that it is better to have a larger amount of interconnections (neuronal pathways) than a larger amount of neurons. We are more efficient when we associate plenty of different concepts than having many isolated ones.
