True story. Last week, while in Manila, my agent Bong called me - TopicsExpress

True story. Last week, while in Manila, my agent Bong called me about a project. (Bong got me my very first TV commercial over three years ago-- Colgate, remember?) Mike, chubby ka naman ngayon diba? He didnt even break it to me gently. OMG. Chubby. What horror. I always try to be honest with myself, so I took a long hard look at the person in the mirror, and there was no denying. I am. So I decided to embrace the chubby cheeks in front of me and, like I always do, make the most of the situation (my secret to success). I thought to myself, What the heck, who am I kidding, might as well earn a quick buck while at it! Yes, Im chubby now, Bong, I answered with a new-found confidence in my rounder state. Since the location of the final casting was quite near the Consulate General of Spain where I was going to have a meeting, I figured theres no harm in trying. Tight as my schedule for that day was, I managed to squeeze this racket in between my meeting at the Consulado (in Makati) and visiting ex-President Arroyo at the Veterans Hospital (in Quezon City). But when I was there, seeing me, the casting director instantly complained, Mike, uhm, obvious naman na di ka chubby! But lets try on-cam... Hindi nga, youre not chubby! This role is not for you. I was smiling ear to ear. I dont think Ive been happier not getting a project, ever! F*ck the money, Im not chubby! LOL Then again, seriously, looking at my recent photos, I think I should give Mr. Casting Director a new pair of glasses, gratis. I may not be fat, but I think I am what many would call chubby. So, I promise - and this is no April Fools prank - Im going to start hitting the gym for the first time after Holy Week! Thats a promise!
