Tuesday 27 Aug 2013 Rev 3:1 And to the angel of the assembly in Sardis, write: These things says the One having the seven spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know your works, that you have the name that you live, and are dead. Rev 3:2 Be watching, and establish the things left, which are about to die. For I have not found your works being fulfilled before God. Rev 3:3 Then remember how you received and heard, and keep, and repent. If, then, you do not watch, I will come upon you like a thief and you will not at all know what hour I come upon you. Sardis is the fourth assembly that receives a letter from Christ. As I have it this should be after the dispensation of the Roman Catholic Church. Christ knows their works and does not any longer find the teachings of Balaam and the Nicolaitans and Jezebel. Yet He finds them dead. That is what happened in the time of Luther and Calvin. And that is what today still happens when traditions are honored. Death is presented by a body without a spirit. It is by the Spirit that our souls make contact with God and when the Spirit is alive in us we are strengthened. Assemblies with worship services where the Spirit can move freely and all can be part of the worship service will live. That is how the church received and heard it in the beginning. Members of one living body that each have their own function and are encouraged to use their gifts to the honor of God, for God gives the gifts in regard to the congregation. The congregation cannot live without the working of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the assembly. Then it becomes a religious organization with a one-man show.
