Tuesdays Tip! Most of us suffer from tight hip flexors due to the amount of sitting we do. Why are they important to stretch? Because they are a big contributor to lower back pain. Our hip flexors muscles start from the spine of our lower back, cross our hip joints and attach to the bone of our upper leg. When they get tight they pull our lower backs into an arch! We have recognised the importance of addressing these muscles for years and frequently do so in our clinic with fantastic results. If you are suffering from lower back pain, book yourself in for examination and treatment. But in the meantime..... •Kneel with your hip and knees at 90 degrees (pop a pillow under your knee if needed). •Now for the most important bit…squeeze those buttocks and tuck your pelvis under. For many this will be enough of a stretch of the hip flexor and you will feel the pull at the front of your hip. •If you would like more of a stretch, shift your weight forward on your bent knee about 10-15 degrees, no further. •Hold for 30-40 seconds, or longer if you like. Try and do this stretch daily if you are heavily office bound to help combat the plague of lower back pain.
