Turkey ready to play role in Kashmir settlement Turk FM says peaceful settlement must be acceptable to Pakistan, India & Kashmiri people Saudi envoy asks international community to resolve longstanding Kashmir issue September 27, 2014 NEW YORK – Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said that Turkey is ready to play its due role for a peaceful settlement of longstanding Kashmir issue and the solution should be acceptable to Pakistan, India and Kashmiri people – the real stakeholders. “Aspirations of Kashmiri people for self-determination must be addressed in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and Turkey is ready to play its due role in this regard,” he said during a sideline meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu Kashmir here at the UN headquarters in New York. The meeting was chaired by OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Manani. The Turk minister said that the international community had a moral and legal responsibility to resolve this longstanding issue. Expressing concern over cancellation of talks with Pakistan by India and the rising tensions across the Line of Control in the disputed state, he called on the parties to resume negotiations without delay and engage in a meaningful and result-oriented dialogue for a peaceful resolution of all disputes including Kashmir. On the occasion, Saudi permanent representative to OIC Mohammad Tayyab also said that Jammu Kashmir was a longstanding issue on the agenda of the UN Security Council which needed resolution by the international community. Saudi Arabia strongly supported the realisation of the rights of Kashmiri people through peaceful dialogue, which was the only way out for both Pakistan and India, he said. He said that any settlement of the conflict must take into account the aspirations of Kashmiri people. Saudi Arabia wanted Pakistan and India to resume negotiations process and the United Nations to invest more efforts in a peaceful resolution of the conflict. It was high-time that the Kashmiri people were given their fundamental human rights and a chance to live in peace and dignity, he said. Pak administrated Kashmir President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob and Hurriyat representative Ishtiyaq Hameed also delivered statements in which they highlighted the ground situation, the delegation also presented a memorandum to the OIC secretary general containing proposals for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
