Turner first Fiji athlete to set world record SUVA, 18 DECEMBER 2014 (FIJI ONE NEWS) --- Fiji Sportswoman of the Year Sainimili Turner has become the first Fiji athlete to set three new world records in the Masters category at the recent Oceania Asian Powerlifting Championship in Australia. Turner set the records with a 140kg lift in the Squat and a 95kg lift in the Bench press which brings a new world record of 385.5kg in the total lift. The veteran lifter also set a record for the Oceania and Commonwealth in the dead-lift of 150.5kg. “Sainimili has delivered over the years and this event she’s really stepped up and surprised everyone, and she’s a great champion, she’s a great role model and I am sure we can expect a lot more from Sainimili in the future,” said Reg Sanday. FASANOC President Reg Sanday adds, Turner’s success will be a big boost for Fiji powerlifting. “This results has certainly put Fiji on the powerlifting map and also indeed that we Pacific Islands because Nauru is a very strong nation and certainly this result from Fiji also means that Fiji is up there amongst leading nations in the world,” said Sanday....
