NOT fir us ya bunch o tubes!!!! Almost 5,000 children in Scotland will be homeless this Christmas, a housing charity warns; 04 November 2013 SHELTER Scotland said the figure will be over 80,000 across the UK as the number of families in emergency housing is at a 10-year high.. NEARLY 5000 children will be homeless in Scotland this Christmas, a leading charity has warned. But that is only a fraction of the 80,000 youngsters in Britain who will wake up on Christmas Day in temporary accommodation. Shelter Scotland now want the Scottish Government to adopt guidelines on minimum standards of temporary accommodation and give families the legal right to challenge conditions. Last December, Shelter Scotland helped more than 1000 people at risk of becoming homeless over the festive period. In June this year, there were 10,471 Scots households in temporary accommodation with 155,100 families and individuals on council waiting lists. Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, said: “It’s a badge of shame that 4847 children in Scotland will spend this Christmas living in temporary accommodation. “With no agreed standards for the quality of accommodation they are sent to, many end up in cold, damp, dangerous and completely unsuitable properties.” (with thanks to Ian for sharing)
