Twelve people killed as a response to offenses committed against their prophet Muhammed. Men willing to bear arms in order to avenge the prophet. It brought to mind a quote from a great book (The Gospel for Muslims) that I read not too long ago. Most Muslims could not stand idly by while they, or their religion, are insulted or threatened; but why is this? The simple answer is the DNA of Islam, which values power and prestige and discards weakness. -Steve Bell We cannot only blame Islam for these crimes. A faulty honor/shame system, that FAR predates modern Islam, is to blame for the mindset that leads to these horrendous acts of death. We, as Christians, must move forward from this and prayerfully consider what it looks like to live peacefully with all.
