Twenty years ago today I spent a couple of hours with a friend of mine, talking, joking, and then praying together. I knew, however, that the open heart surgery that he was going to have the next morning was a huge risk. We enjoyed our time together so much despite this fact, as he KNEW where he was going if he did not make it through the surgery. He didnt....instead of being given a new lease on life here, he was promoted to something much better. Several days later, as I was having his funeral, my tears and those of many others flowed for sure BUT was marvelous assurance we had that we would meet up again and resume our friendship together. This is the big difference, however. Twenty years ago today I spoke my final words to John, my friend BUT we will meet again. We pass by many, however, in our daily walk that we never will see again either here or in eternity because they do not have HOPE. How important it is that our hearts convey where our true hope is....in a relationship to Jesus Christ....one that is not superficial but one where absolute assurance is known that our sin has been washed away by His precious blood. Last week, while Pastor Matt and I were going door-to-door (yes, pretty old fashioned method) we had the joy of seeing a young father in his late 20s invite Christ to be his Savior. There is NOTHING more marvelous than that....passed from DEATH unto LIFE.
