Two disturbing incidence this week with animal control. I found an injured bird and called for advice or the number to a rehab place. In a very encouraging voice, the woman immediately asked if I wanted someone to come and pick it up. She was surprised when I quickly responded no way. When I asked what they would do with it, she hesitated quite a bit and then admitted that they would put it down. Should they not have to give this information to people right away? It turned out the bird was just stunned and was released. The other incident involved a friend who took in a stray cat to try and find the owner. She posted on several sites and after not being able to find the owner called animal control to see if anyone had called there. She said that the woman was horrible to her on the phone and told her that after four days she was the legal owner of the cat. My friend had to press several times just to get them to take a description of the cat in case anyone phoned. She was trying to help save a cat that she cannot keep and was treated like dirt. All cat rescue groups are full and refusing to take it. We have a really big problem in Oshawa with feral and dumped cats and I have noticed it getting much worse lately. Something needs to be done to change this
