Two doctors, two different modes of approach. Case 1- An Ebola - TopicsExpress

Two doctors, two different modes of approach. Case 1- An Ebola patient arrives Lagos. He gets admitted into a hospital. He doesnt respond to treatment so hes tested for Ebola and found to be positive. The doctor alerts the relevant authorities. Contacts were identified, tracked down and quarantined. Even when one of the suspected carriers absconded, she was brought back with people she had contact with. Within a month of Sawyer entering the country, just one Ebola patient left. Containment is successful. Case 2- Ebola patient arrives Port-Harcourt. He visits a doctor. The doctor quarantines him but does not alert the authorities. The patient recovers, but the doctor dies. Contacts were not identified. No one knows who may have been infected. A much larger population is at risk. This has put a blemish on what would have been a success story. When it comes to Ebola, not doing the right things at the right time could be very costly. We sincerely hope that the disease would be prevented from spreading to other parts of the country.
