Two for one video technique :) Lets look at some back technique from yesterdays session. Two different types of rowing movements. I dont do a lot of bent over rows or T-bar rows due to the stress it can have on the lower back. If you choose to do them, you might as well do them right! I see guys loading up the T-bar and pretty much just bicep curling the weight which is pointless! With the T-bar row pick the weight up and lock your torso at the required angle. Normally about 45 degrees. Keep your torso locked in that position, retract the shoulder blades on each rep working the back muscles rather then just pumping up the biceps!! Seated cable rows are a great exercises were you can really stretch your lats, But only if you know how to correctly! Done incorrectly this can be a real posture killer!! Some weeks Ill do the seated cable row with my torso locked up right and some weeks Ill incorporate a stretch into the rep. When you lean forward to stretch the lats do so from the waist keeping your back straight! Do NOT round your upper back looking for the stretch. You lean forward from the waist!! Rounding your back is asking for all kinds of trouble!! Not a good look! A little tip to help you feel the stretch as you lean forward is to try and push your head back and up a little. Se how this makes a difference, it might work for some and not others. For me it heightens the stretch/feeling/mind muscle connection. Always hold and squeeze on your reps! Its not always about the weight you lift but what you do with it that counts! If your a bodybuilder looking to build muscle you dont need to be concerned with the poundages. The weights are just the tools you need to stimulate the muscle. If you can stimulate the muscle with the lightest weight possible that can only be a good thing, especially on those joints!!!
